JUNO award-winner Dan Mangan to headline popular Coquitlam arts festival

Kaleidoscope is coming back with three different venues in three days.

A B.C. musician who's won national awards for his talents is adding Coquitlam as a stop on his summer schedule.

The Kaleidoscope Arts Festival is returning next month and Dan Mangan has been added to the 2022 music line-up for the free three-day event.

The Smithers indie-rocker has two JUNO awards under his belt — new artist of the year and alternative album of the year, both in 2012 — as well as a pair of Polaris Music Prize nods.

Mangan has five studio LPs and has toured extensively across North America, Europe and Australia throughout his career.

His performance will officially kick off the popular Tri-Cities festival when he takes the TD Community Plaza outdoor stage in Town Centre Park.

Last year, attendees had to pre-register for Kaleidoscope events to meet health and safety restrictions during the then state of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The seventh installment will feature other performers, food trucks, and free hands-on in-person art activities, which will be spread across three different venues; Town Centre Park, Blue Mountain Park and Victoria Park.

Maria Danysh, Coquitlam's acting cultural and community events supervisor, says there will be something for everyone as the festival is meant for all ages.

The 2022 Kaleidoscope Arts Festival takes place from Aug. 19 to 21.

It's schedule is as follows:

  • Aug. 19
    • 6 to 9 p.m.
    • Outdoor concert experience at Town Centre Park with food trucks and live music, including Mangan
  • Aug. 20
    • 12 to 4 p.m.
    • Creative hands-on arts activities at Blue Mountain Park, with live music and cultural dance performances, local art club displays and a sample food vendor fare
  • Aug. 21
    • 12 to 4 p.m.
    • Family-focused fun at Victoria Park; food vendors, live music, storytelling, cultural workshops and creative arts activities
