Nancy McCurrach is seeking a second term with Port Coquitlam council.

A one-term councillor has got the ball rolling on her re-election campaign, announcing via social media last week that she is running for another stint on Port Coquitlam council.

In a statement to the Tri-City News, Nancy McCurrach said "it would be an honour and a privilege to continue to serve the people of Port Coquitlam so that I can continue to work hard and bring forth positive initiatives to make PoCo an even better place."

McCurrach announced her campaign for re-election on Thursday (July 7) on Facebook, seeking a second term around the horseshoe, and notes she has been endorsed by Port Coquitlam Mayor Brad West.

West has yet to officially announce his candidacy for mayor.

So far, the pre-election publicity has been quiet, with just two new Port Coquitlam candidates announcing their bid for one of six council seats:

  • Erik Minty, a former Green Party candidate
  • Sarah Harbord, operations manager at Patina Brewing and a member of the PoCo BIA (Business Improvement Association)

McCurrach, meanwhile, states a number of Port Coquitlam council accomplishments on her website and YouTube channel.

Among her priorities are:

  • climate action, including environmental protection and enhancements
  • affordable housing and smart growth
  • transportation improvements (all modes)
  • health and safety
  • taxes at fair, transparent and affordable levels

The civic election will take place on Oct. 15, 2022.

As well, the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a series of all-candidates debates for local 2022 civic elections.

Port Coquitlam mayor and council nominees will get the chance to speak to the issues that matter to them, and take questions from the public, at Riverside Community Church on Oct. 3
