The Delta Community Animal Shelter posted a list to Facebook today about what you should have in an emergency preparedness kit for your pet.

The shelter recommends your pet emergency preparedness kit include the following:

  • Leash, pet restraint, muzzle or harness
  • Pet carrier
  • Pet food for fourteen days (or more)
  • Water for fourteen days (or more)
  • Collapsible food and water dishes
  • Treats, a favourite toy and a small towel with your scent on it
  • Waterproof backpack or bag for your pet supplies
  • Copy of vaccination records
  • Medications and basic pet first aid supplies
  • Photos of your pet(s) with you and alone; they can be used for identification

“At this time, there is no evidence to support that domestic dogs, cats, and/or rabbits can transmit the COVID-19 virus,” the post notes.

The post adds that, “We are happy to speak with guardians if you have any questions or concerns and can be reached at 604-940-7111 or encourage you to speak with your veterinarian.”
