Makers Market pop-ups come to Burnaby this weekend

How long is your Christmas shopping list?

If you want to check off some items early, there are plenty of Christmas markets and fairs in Burnaby to give you a helping hand.

One of them, a Local Makers Market, is coming to the Brentwood mall this weekend for your shopping fixes.

"I am a vendor myself and know how hard locals are trying to survive and build a brand these days," said organizer Maryam Moeinfar, whose vegan skincare brand, Beautitionary, can be checked out at the market.

"We organize these market series to support locals."

Every weekend from Nov. 19 to Dec. 23, the free pop-up will help you find locally produced, one-of-a-kind presents for the holidays.You can find a wide array of gifts at the market along with food and live music.

Here are some of the local vendors to check out at the market this weekend (Nov. 19-20):

AMLiora designs

Liora Agronov-Moss, a Vancouver-based designer, started her AMLiora Designs to keep her self busy during the pandemic, with the aim of memorializing moments of beauty in nature.

She creates floral and resin keepsakes using real flowers and leaves. You can find jewelry, hair accessories, dishes, decor pieces night lights and more, all made with local flowers.

The Alfajor company

On the hunt for a decadent handcrafted luxury treat?

Look no further than the Alfajor company. It makes traditional Latin American wafer cookies with fillings like dulce de leche, Nutella and mocha chocolate ganache. Their recipes have been passed down over many generations going back 15th-century Spain, according to the company's website.

The Lian

The Lian handcrafts clothing from fabrics sourced from South Korea.

Named after the founder, Elina, and her two kids, Lina and Ian, the clothing brand creates minimalist apparel.

Beautitionary

Immigrant couple Maryam Moeinfar and Mohammadreza Ghazi made their life's dream come true when they co-founded vegan, cruelty-free skincare brand, Beautitionary.

According to Moeinfar, their products are prepared free of artificial colours and fragrances, synthetic dyes and chemical preservatives because they believe that great skin is possible with earth- and human-friendly ingredients.
