Gifts and parties are often what a person requests when it comes to their birthdays, but not for one Richmond resident.
Marika Lopez, founder of Richmond-based Seizure Soldiers, is celebrating her birthday month by fundraising for the Epilepsy Association of Calgary.
Her goal is to raise $300 for the organization and so far $150 has been donated.
The Richmond resident, who has grown up battling epilepsy, said the Epilepsy Association of Calgary is not as well-known when compared to the B.C. Epilepsy Society, so she’s also hoping to help raise awareness of it.
“They are like a hidden-gem and not many people know about them so I want to take this chance to give them the recognition they deserve and help them out,” said Lopez.
“COVID-19 has been difficult for everyone and I hope that people can once again help people in need.”
This is the second year Lopez has fundraised for epilepsy-related organizations during her birthday.
