The Stratford Festival production of The Rocky Horror Show is wowing critics and audiences alike this season – and a New Westminster actor is one of the reasons why.

Sayer Roberts is starring as Brad in the Stratford production of the cult musical favourite – and both the show and Roberts himself are earning raves.

Roberts’ turn as the nerdy Brad who finds himself sucked into the strange world of the mad transvestite scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter was described as a “standout” by J. Kelly Nestruck in The Globe and Mail, and “fantastic” by the musical theatre website Broadwayworld.com.

Moreover, I have it on good authority from an excellent personal source who attended a recent production (OK, OK, it was my sister) that Roberts has one amazing set of pipes and his ballad in the second act is a highlight moment.

So, should you happen to be Ontario-bound any time this fall, be sure to look up our local-talent-made-good story for yourself. The Rocky Horror Show is on at Stratford’s Avon Theatre until Nov. 25. See www.stratfordfestival.ca for all the details.

And while you’re at it, save the date for another star turn by a member of the Roberts-Winton clan: Sayer’s mother, Colleen Winton, who’ll be starring as Mrs. Lovett in the upcoming Snapshots Collective performance of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Starring in the title role will be none other than Warren Kimmel, a favourite on New Westminster stages from such shows as Royal City Musical Theatre’s My Fair Lady and Fiddler on the Roof, and Patrick Street Productions’ A Little Night Music.

Sweeney Todd is onstage in Vancouver Oct. 10 to 28 – watch for more soon, or see www.sweeneytoddthemusical.ca for all the details.
