The Mother of All Comedy Shows is returning to New Westminster.

The show, which features a collection of some of the best local women in stand-up comedy, is onstage at the Anvil Centre Theatre on Saturday, May 4 at 8 p.m.

The performers have diverse backgrounds and experiences related to “mothering” – and they’ll be sharing their words about it.

“They may be mothers. They may have mothers. They may share a viewpoint that you haven’t thought of. This is a show for mothers and the others that love them,” said a press release.

The show was produced to sold-out audiences at the Surrey Arts Centre and Lafflines Comedy Club in 2017, and it’s returning with a slate of new comics for this edition.

It’s produced by Janice Bannister of Laughter Zone 101, who’s dedicated to creating opportunities for comics in New Westminster and beyond. The press release notes that Bannister worked her way through the club system as a comic, being turned away at doors because there was “already another woman onstage” that month.  Her experiences have made her aware of the need to make space for different comedy voices, so she dedicates her shows to featuring comics with diverse backgrounds, lived experiences and perspectives.

Bannister will be the feature comic for the evening – sharing what the release calls her “nerd side” with her “flipping the bird” side.

She’ll be joined by Monique Bellamy, second-place winner in the 2018 B.C.’s Funniest Female Competition; Katrina Bennett, a two-time runner-up for B.C.’s Funniest Female; and Colleen Brow, a former Vancouver’s Funniest New Female Comic winner. Also onstage will be New West’s Erin Jeffery, who made the Top 10 in the CBC Next Up Comedy Competition in 2019, along with Sarah Susswein and Tania Taylor.
