A New Westminster filmmaker emerged a winner from a recent international film competition.

Erin Parks earned herself a People’s Choice award in the 2020 Musicbed Reopen Challenge. Her short film Unreined, which shines a spotlight on the work of women in B.C.’s horse rescue community, was one of only two Canadian entries to earn a People’s Choice honour in the international competition – which attracted more than 1,000 films from 87 countries.

(It was featured in the July 23 Record, and you can also read an online version here.)

Parks was one of 50 People’s Choice winners selected after a voting period that drew more than 63,000 voters online. She earned $1,000 for the award – money she has pledged to horse rescue groups.

Parks is now working on funding to put together a more in-depth version of the film.
