Two female-singer songwriters are in the spotlight this weekend for the Arts Council of New Westminster’s Uptown Unplugged series.
On Saturday, between noon and 2 p.m., music-lovers can stop by Westminster Centre (555 Sixth St.) to catch Carmina Bolinao, a Vancouver singer-songwriter who’s known for her soft, understated voice and stripped-down style. Bolinao presents what she describves as “soulful, self-aware” music inspired by old-school R&B with a touch of jazz.
On Sunday, between noon and 2 p.m., pop over to Royal City Centre mall at Sixth and Sixth for Monika Schwartzman, whose pop-folk sounds are infused with Latin rhythms and melodies.
The Uptown Unplugged series continues every weekend until Sept. 9. For info, check out www.artscouncilnewwest.org/uptownunplugged, or check out the Arts Council of New Westminster on Facebook.
