Looking for a way to contribute to New Westminster’s vibrant arts community?

The Massey Theatre Society may have just the role for you: serving on its board of directors. Applications from prospective new board members are now being accepted, until Aug. 10.

The society oversees the running of the Massey Theatre, the 1,260-seat theatre at Eighth Street and Eighth Avenue that has been hosting both local and touring productions since 1949, as well as its Plaskett Gallery, which offers regular visual arts exhibitions. It’s also responsible for the Anvil Centre Theatre, a flexible, contemporary performance space in the downtown arts and conference centre.

The society is managed by a team of arts professionals, and the board takes a governance role – particularly in the long-term preservation and stewardship of its facilities, and activities in support of its community service mandate and strategic plans.

Volunteers for the board of directors should have one or more of the following characteristics:

  • a passion for the arts
  • a keen understanding and interest in the valuable role of the not-for-profit sector in community development
  • experience in networking and representing the best interests of the community
  • an interest and understanding in strategic development and planning

A call for board members notes the society tries to develop a diverse board, reflective of the full spectrum of ages, cultures and gender identities in the community.

Anyone interested should contact Lynn Radbourne at [email protected] with a resumé and cover letter.
