How to recreate a hotel experience at home.

COVID-19 turned vacation days into staycation months and while there is the ability to travel within Canada, some people are missing international trips that aren’t advisable quite yet. While we wait for the OK to book that trip, we can at least arrange our space to feel like we’re on vacation, right?

SCENT, SHOWER AND SOAPS

Le Labo supplies rose-scented toiletries for Fairmont Hotels and Resorts (for some room types, guests are left a customized bottle with their name on it). Rose 31 is available in perfume and laundry soap (in collaboration with luxury clothing care line The Laundress) but the shower gel is currently sold out. Nordstrom also carries Le Labo’s signature scent, Santal 33 as well as other shower gels, like basil and mandarin.

Who it's ideal for: Anyone who can’t resist free toiletry bottles.

Why we're endorsing it: Luxurious bath products that make a shower feel like a 10-minute spa day.

Where it could use improvements: Distinct scent could irritate people with sensitivity to smells.

Size/weight/dimensions: Rose 31 perfume is available in 1.7 oz and 3.4 oz bottles.

LOUNGEWEAR FOR ANYWHERE

There's something about an oversized white robe and terrycloth slippers that feel like a self-care moment. That can be replicated at home with a waffle robe (the one pictured above is unisex), made from Turkish cotton with a satin trim paired with a indoor-only set of slippers. (This pack of six can also be set out for guests in a shoes-off household.)

Who it's ideal for: People who take their down time seriously.

Why we're endorsing it: The waffle-terry blend is light for summer but warm enough for winter; it shouldn't pill or shed.

Where it could use improvements: Unisex sizing for robes is tricky for those who want a fitted or oversized fit.

Size/weight/dimensions: S/M is 47” long; L/XL is 49” long.

DINING À LA BEDSIDE

There is nothing quite like eating a club sandwich off a room service tray that’s been wheeled to the foot of your bed. That experience can be recreated with a foldable bamboo lap tray (pictured) or a modern-looking TV tray (comes in grey, walnut and white).

Who it's ideal for: Someone who picks up the room service menu as soon as they get to their room.

Why we're endorsing it: TV and bed trays can be used for work-from-home, watching movies in bed and crafts. Made from bamboo (some cheaper models are made with particle board).

Where it could use improvements: Weight capacity is eight pounds.

There’s a few small luxuries that make hotel stays familiar, like the sturdy wooden hangers (these ones are cherry), a mini blow dryer (pictured) stored in a cloth bag, a notepad and pen near the phone (this Canadian Etsy shop creates customized notepads for just $12) and a bathroom mirror that illuminates every pore.

Who it's ideal for: Those who want a blow dryer that packs a punch but can be tucked away.

Why we’re endorsing it: Powerful air flow, foldable handle, brand trust.

Where it could use improvements: No attachments.

Size/weight/dimensions: ‎8.25 x 12.7 x 26.67 cm.

A HOTEL TO HANG UP

Want a vacation photo without taking a vacation? This pastel-washed print of a hotel pool in Palm Spring feels miles from Canadian weather and comes in five sizes.

Who it's ideal for: Anyone who wants a holiday vibe at home.

Why we’re endorsing it: Society6 makes art easily accessible to Canadian shoppers. Reviewers love the finished product.

Where it could use improvements: Frame sold separately.

Size/weight/dimensions: ‎XS (10”-7”) - XL (40”-28”).
