Tell us about yourself. (100 words)

A retired police officer with 32 years of experience having served in both the UK and Canada.  I have lived in New West since 2002.  I compete locally and internationally in outrigger canoe paddling and snow board with my family.  I enjoy reading and watching documentaries on a wide range of topics.   

 

What are the Top 3 issues facing the City of New Westminster? (100 words)

* The availability of affordable rental housing units, especially for working families. 

* Traffic congestion, in particular traffic making its way through residential areas and the area around Queensborough.

* Lack of new and updated sporting infrastructure.

 

What is the biggest success or failure of the current city council?

The failure to keep our sporting and community infrastructure modern and updated.  The Arenex collapse could have been a national disaster if this happened at peak time.  Our youth need to be engaged at all levels of sport and community/recreation spaces help keep our communities engaged and healthy.

 

The City of New Westminster concluded a lengthy official community plan process and is working to implement that plan. With the city’s population projected to grow to 104,000 by 2041, is the city on the right track to accommodating this growth? (50 words)

I believe the city is on the right track but with all development we need to consider the supporting infrastructure first – such as roads, transit, parks.  How do we support this growth? 

 

What three people – alive or dead – would you invite to a dinner party? (50 words)

Richard Branson – visionary, risk taker, with an inclusive management style.

Jim Pattison – local businessman and philanthropist.

Malala Yousafzai – activist, visionary, Nobel Peace Prize winner.
