VCH declares COVID-19 outbreak at UBC Hospital

Vancouver Coastal Health has declared a coronavirus outbreak in the British Columbia Psychosis Program in the West Wing of the Detwiller Pavillion.

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) has declared a coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak at UBC Hospital after four residents tested positive.

The outbreak occurred in the British Columbia Psychosis Program in the West Wing of the Detwiller Pavillion a release from VCH states. Outbreak precautions have been implemented in the building and all group activities have been suspended. Visits to the West wing have also been suspended until outbreak measures are lifted.

VCH immediately implemented strict infection prevention and control protocols to prevent further transmission of COVID-19. These include:

  • Careful monitoring of residents, staff and physicians
  • Enhanced cleaning and disinfection of all high-touch surfaces
  • Cohorting of staff to the affected areas when possible
  • Closing the affected unit to resident admissions and transfers
