Computer courses are among the offerings for seniors this winter at the Community Centred College for the Retired.

Health Canada specialists will be helping local seniors to make sure their homes are safe.

Century House is hosting a virtual workshop on household safety, featuring facilitators from Health Canada’s environmental health program – Kathleen Yan, risk communications and public involvement officer, and Yalda Yavari, radiation specialist.

“This session will cover ways to reduce your risks to chemicals and other pollutants in your home,” said a notice about the workshop. “Topics include: how chemicals in the environment affect health, safety with household chemicals and other household products, radon and air quality.”

The Zoom session is taking place on Wednesday, June 24 at 2 p.m.

It’s safe and free, so go ahead.”

Advance care planning

Advance care planning is the focus of an upcoming workshop being sponsored by Century House.

“In this virtual workshop, you will learn about the 5 steps of Advance Care Planning, allowing you, and the people who matter to you, to start and continue the advance care planning process,” said a notice from Century House about the workshop. “COVID-19 and other unexpected events in our lives have reminded so many of us of our mortality and the benefits of planning in advance.”

The workshop, taking place on Thursday, June 25 at 1 p.m., will be facilitated by Andrew Saunderson, a registered social worker, and Kelly Johnson, a registered nurse, who currently provide education, coaching and mentoring in advance care planning across the Fraser Health region.

“The importance of planning ahead before you are sick has never been clearer; however, many people don’t know where to begin, while others are unaware that we can have a say in our care,” said the notice. “This session will provide insights and resources to help you better understand how to share and document your wishes for future health and personal care.
