New Westminster's Century House recently hosted a Human Library inspired project with a historical twist.
The Nov. 30 World War II Café featured human "books" who shared their experiences of living through the Second World War. Visitors could "sign out" the books to hear about their experiences, similar to the Human Library project.
"It was so good. The people who came got a lot out of it," said Shelly Schnee, a recreation programmer with Century House. Schnee said roughly 20 people attended, and there were 11 human books.

"Everybody got to have a really nice one-on-one with the books," she said. "The feedback I got from people was really positive. We had a really unique group of people with so many stories to tell."
Schnee thinks Century House will host the café again next year, possibly earlier and in the new Anvil Centre, which is slated to open in 2014.
