Eating on the cheap just got a lot easier, thanks to IKEA Canada’s launch of a 75-cent veggie hot dog on their bistro menus nationwide.
Made with kale, red lentils, carrots, ginger, quinoa, onion, potatoes and various spices, their new veggie dog comes served with mustard, red cabbage, and roasted onion–and a bunch of build-it-yourself furniture on the side.
Just kidding…there aren’t any allen wrenches involved in this section of IKEA.
“The new veggie hot dog helps us cater to the needs of more of the many people at our Bistro locations – for vegetarians or those looking for a delicious plant-based alternative that’s convenient and truly affordable,” said Brendan Seale, Head of Sustainability, IKEA Canada in a media release.
“Our aim is to provide food options that are healthy, delicious, and good for our planet and so we are proud to introduce the veggie hot dog.”
IKEA claims that this game-changer bargain bite has a carbon footprint that is approximately seven times less than the classic hot dog.
The Swedish-based furniture retailer launched a veggie alternative to their famed meatballs in 2015, and has plans to add more veggie and vegan fare to their menus, including plant-based soft serve.
