Tiny warmed a lot of hearts in his 13 years. Local business owner Leona Green is holding a memorial in honour of Tiny, who died March 2 - and using it as a way to raise funds for the local animal shelter.

A local business owner is holding a memorial for a little dog who touched a lot of lives – and helping out other animals at the same time.

Leona Green, who owns Greens and Beans Deli in Sapperton, is holding a memorial for Tiny, a dog she’s known for 13 years and helped on many occasions. His owner Dave lived on the streets before finding a home in the Russell Housing Centre about five years ago.

“In the years prior to that, Tiny spent many a cold night at my place,” she said in an email to the Record. “For the last year he spent most of his time at Lorrie Williams’ house, with Dave picking him up every few days to take him out.  Dave helps us out at the deli in the morning and again at the end of the day for cleanup. Tiny was always with him.”

Through the years, Green and Williams helped pay for Tiny’s dog licence and veterinarian bills.

“A lot of people knew and loved Tiny,” Green said. “I am going to make it a little fundraiser for our animal shelter. Tiny was picked up a few times by them and they knew who he was. They would call me and I would go pick him up and reunite him with Dave.  He would always be sitting on someone’s lap in their office.”

The memorial/fundraiser is taking place on Sunday, March 8 at Greens and Beans, 143 East Columbia St.

“Three of the people from Quayside Voices will be singing at Tiny's memorial,” Green said. “I love New Westminster.”
