LETTERS: Time change has to go

Dear Editor:

I note with approval your ‘Our View: It’s way past time to ditch this routine’ (the Record, Nov. 16). The one caveat I would propose is that if we ditch time changes bi-annually, we stay on daylight saving time. To me the “extra” light at 7 a.m. is wasted, plus I note that over the years, the months on DST are increasing while standard time months are decreasing, so DST must be more popular.

Any other so-called advantages of altering the time are, as you point out, offset by increased accidents and less productivity, etc., etc. I know that, scientifically, standard time is “correct,” something about the sun reaching its highest point at noon, but that will happen regardless of what we do with our timepieces, so yes, let’s get it over with and go on DST all year.
