The B.C. Association of Social Workers applauds New Westminster city council's decision to demolish the remaining structure on the old Woodlands property.
We recognize that it was a difficult and complex decision for many reasons and can only comment on the part of the process and argument that heard the voices of former residents.
Tearing down the Centre Block will remove forever that constant visible reminder of past abuses.
Our hope is that the lessons learned will be remembered and acted upon and perpetuate a positive legacy of safety, inclusion and the prevention of harm for all people.
