A pair of New Westminster residents are behind bars following a shooting last weekend.

New West police were called to an apartment in the 600 block of Blackford Street Saturday morning for a report of shots being fired inside the building.

When officers arrived, they found a bullet hole through a door and window of a unit.

While there were no injuries, police said they did find a firearm and a large quantity of drugs. Two New West men were arrested, Gage McPake, 23 and Cody Stuiver, 21.

The two men are each facing one charge of possession of a loaded restricted firearm.

“We’re thankful that no one was injured from the shooting, and at this point it does not appear that anyone was targeted,” saidNew Westminster Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Jeff Scott in a press release. “The shots were fired inside their own suite, and our Major Crime Unit is continuing to investigate any drug related offences.”

McPake and Stuiver remain in custody until their next court appearance on March 2.

Police noted the investigation continues and there is no public safety concern at this time.
