New Westminster police had parts of Moody Park roped off Wednesday evening after an alleged axe attack sent one person to hospital.

Police continue to investigate an attack at Moody Park that sent one person to hospital with head wounds.

The confrontation happened around 4 p.m. near the baseball diamonds. A 27-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries when two men attacked him with a weapon. Online reports suggested the weapon was an axe, but the New Westminster Police Department could not confirm that.

The victim was taken to hospital for stitches, according to police.

As of yet, no arrests have been made, and investigators are still trying to figure out who the attackers are. The New Westminster Police Department is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the events to come forward.

New Westminster police spokesperson Sgt. Jeff Scott said there is no reason for the public to be concerned about their safety. The incident does not appear to be random, he noted.

“This appears to be a targeted assault, and the suspects may be known to the victim,” read a press release.

More information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 604-525-5411.
