Royal City residents are invited to support Queen's Park Care Centre by checking out its new-and-improved gift shop.

The Queen's Park Volunteer Society Gift Shop is hosting a sale on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. The gift shop now features jewelry and art by local artisans.

"It's a win, win, win," said Lorraine Brett, chair of the Queen's Park Healthcare Foundation, in an email to The Record." How? One-hundred per cent of net proceeds go to support the needs of the folks who live at the care centre, artists get to market and sell their work and, when you buy a gift item you have the assurance that the money is going to a great cause."

Items available at Thursday's Christmas Shopping Night event include silk scarves, jewelry, gourmet vinegars, holiday home dcor and more. The shop is located inside the main lobby of the hospital at 315 McBride Blvd.

Colleen McDonald, a New Westminster retired teacher, instigated the rebranding effort at the gift shop. The shop pledged to continue selling treats that are popular among residents, but it also wanted to expand its offerings to include items that staff and visitors would want to buy for themselves or as gifts.

"Every single penny that the store makes goes back into the hospital," McDonald told The Record earlier this year. "It all goes back to the patients."

The gift shop accepts Visa, MasterCard and Debit cards. Designated parking for the gift shop can be found at the main entrance.
