Here's how to stop your stolen bike from being lost forever

Register your bike to improve the chances of finding it if it's stolen.

Five or six bikes are reported stolen in nearby Vancouver every day – less than you might think for a city of that size.

Even fewer are returned to their owners when they’re found by police.

But New Westminsterites can improve the chances of recovering their own bike, by signing up with the 529 Garage bike registry. It normally costs $14.99, but it’s free when you register with the New Westminster Police Department.

Bring your bike to one of the upcoming registration events outside Queen’s Park Stadium on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (July 24 to 25) from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., to improve the chance of seeing your bike again if a stranger makes off with your wheels.
