Construction of the new secondary school continued this week with the installation of 220 drills at the site.

Site work for the New Westminster Secondary School replacement project began several months ago and has been progressing ahead of schedule, according to the school district.

This week, crews will be installing a drilling rig and augers that will “spiral” into the ground to prep it for the new school’s foundation. The district expects this work will last several weeks, noted the release.

Hydraulic equipment will be used, and residents should expect some minor noise, the release added.

About six trees are also expected to be removed from the site starting Thursday (today) to make room for the new school.

Construction of the new high school is expected to be complete by spring 2020 with the official school opening planned for September of that year.
