It’s a lesson in how (not) to navigate the mental health care system – in comedy form.
Anjelene Mittelholtz is bringing her show, Sanity Rules, to the stage for the Way Off-Broadway Wednesdays series at the Heritage Grill on Feb. 28.
The show follows Mittelholtz journey to L.A., where she intended to find herself as a comic – but instead finds herself roofied, sexually assaulted and homeless.
“Her homecoming involves a handful of DSM labels, a cocktail of psych meds and some mandhandling by power-hungry security guards,” a press release says. “Faced with a broken health-care system, and a family willing to designate her as crazy, Anjie is forced to fight through her drug-induced mental fog to freedom.”
After sharing her story, Mittelholtz opens the floor to questions.
Shows are on a pay-what-you-want basis, and doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. show. You can just show up, or reserve a table by calling 604-759-0819. The Heritage Grill is at 447 Columbia St.
