A handful of New Westminster Secondary School music students carried off top honours at the recent Surrey Schools Jazz Festival.

“The Surrey Schools Jazz Festival is Canada’s largest and longest-running educational jazz event,” teacher Steve Clements wrote in an email to the Record. “Our students played incredibly well at the festival.”

The performances included several wins: Alison Cardinall for Top Saxophonist, Jonah Wright for Top Trombonist, Ryan Baron for Top Guitarist, and Tony Wang for Top Drummer and Top Vibraphonist. Adrian de Guzman also earned a $50 gift certificate for outstanding sax playing.

The students were also part of the orchestra for the NWSS production of Crazy For You, which ran at Massey Theatre Feb. 21 to 24.
