A homegrown talent will be front and centre when the New Westminster Symphony Orchestra takes to the stage next weekend for a concert of favourite Italian opera music.

The concert is set for Sunday, March 4 at 2 p.m. at the Massey Theatre.

It features the talents of tenor soloist Thomas Lamont, a New Westminster Secondary School grad who first came to widespread attention as the star of the NWSS production of Bye Bye Birdie in 2009. He also earned acclaim for his turn as Freddy Eynsford-Hill in the Royal City Musical Theatre production of My Fair Lady in 2015.

Lamont will be featured in Puccini’s choral masterpiece Messa di Gloria, with a choir of 100 singers from the Willian Choir, Vancouver Community College Chamber Choir and West End Chamber Choir.

He’ll also sing Puccini’s well-loved aria Che Gelida Manina (Her Tiny Hand is Frozen) from La Bohème.

The bass soloist will be Angus Bell.

The program also includes other operatic favourites, including works from Rossini’s Barber of Seville and Mascagni’s Cavaliera Rusticana.

The theatre is at 735 Eighth Ave. Admission is by donation. See www.newwestsymphony.net for details.
