The society has presented its annual Second Year Entrance Award of Distinction to Douglas College student Christopher Osterman.

Osterman, a resident of Surrey, supervised the construction and rigging of the set for the college's production of Jehanne of the Witches, which is onstage until Nov. 19.

Maureen Albanese, the society's treasurer, presented Osterman with the award at the opening night reception for Jehanne of the Witches.

The award is presented to a student entering their second year of stagecraft or theatre at Douglas College.

E.C. "Ted" Eddy, president of the society, said he was pleased to see the presentation of the award.

"This award fulfils the society's continuing objective to provide access to community theatre and resources to foster and develop theatre arts in New Westminster," he said in a press release.

Tracy Green, coordinator of the Douglas College Foundation, lauded the society for offering the award.

"The Raymond Burr Performing Arts Society is actively encouraging the development of artists and the arts in New Westminster," she said. "The award encourages and motivates students, like Christopher, to work hard and achieve their goals."
