A team of transplant recipients gathered at Royal Columbian Hospital Wednesday to say thank you to hospital staff who help save lives.
B.C. Transplant's annual Operation Popcorn took place at Royal Columbian Hospital Dec. 21.
The transplant recipients delivered tins of popcorn to show their gratitude to the many doctors, nurse and lab specialists who are involved in the organ donation process.
"Without the support of Royal Columbian Hospital, organ donation and transplantation would not be possible," stated a press release from B.C. Transplant. "So far this year, staff in intensive care units, emergency departments and operating rooms across B.C. have helped to save 268 lives."
Operation Popcorn began more than 20 years ago as a way of acknowledging the difficult but crucial role that staff at B.C. hospitals play with potential decided organ donors, their families and the organ recovery process.
During Operation Popcorn, transplant recipients across B.C. deliver decorative tins of popcorn to donor hospitals to personally thank the staff in the critical care units for their hard work and dedication - and to show them living proof that organ donation saves lives.
