The New Westminster Minor Lacrosse Association will once again be celebrating Pink Shirt Day at this year's Doug Hazelwood lacrosse clinic on Feb. 22. Kids are invited to try out lacrosse or brush up on their skills at the annual clinic.

While red may be the Salmonbellies’ colour of choice, some of the city’s youngest lacrosse players are sporting pink.

The New Westminster Minor Lacrosse Association is holding its annual Doug Hazelwood Memorial Lacrosse Clinics on Feb. 15 and 22.

“This is a free clinic that New West Minor puts on annually to introduce new kids ages five to 10 to the game of lacrosse,” association president Rich Catton said in an email to the Record. “It also gives our younger returning lacrosse players, ages five to eight, a chance to come out and dust the rust off their lacrosse sticks and have some fun with our volunteer instructors.”

With the Feb. 22 clinic falling on Pink Shirt Day, the association is supplying attendees with Doug Hazelwood pink T-shirts to help support anti-bullying efforts in our schools and the community.

Any new players 10 or under or returning players who are eight and under are invited to attend the Doug Hazelwood skill-development clinic on Wednesday, Feb. 22 in the gym at Ecole Glenbrook Middle School, 701 Park Cres. The clinic is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for those six years and under and from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. for kids seven and up.

Proper gym shoes and helmet are required, and kids with sticks should bring them to the clinic. Anyone wishing to try out lacrosse before registering is welcome to attend, but parents must sign an insurance waiver.
