New West set to welcome thousands to Hometown Hockey Tour

Thousands of hockey fans are expected to visit Queen's Park this weekend when the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour hits town.

Hockey fans will be feeling the love when the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour arrives in the Royal City this Valentine’s Day weekend.

The New Westminster Minor Hockey Association kicks off the weekend with a hockey pep rally at Queen’s Park Arena featuring a performance by The Hockey Circus Show on Friday, Feb. 12 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. That will be followed by activities including an open skate for minor hockey players and coaches, prize giveaways, a barbecue, a hockey challenge and a bantam game.

On Saturday and Sunday, visitors to Queen’s Park will be able to enjoy interactive activities like the  Rogers NHL game centre, Be a Broadcaster booth and a warming lodge fearing lounge areas where they can relax, play on gaming consoles and enjoy other activities. Along with some events running throughout the weekend, the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour features events at set times (although organizers point out event times are subject to change without notice.)

12:30 p.m. Autograph signings with Kirk McLean (Scotiabank tent) and Cliff Ronning (Rogers tent)

12:45 p.m. McDonald’s trivia challenge (main stage)

1:15 p.m. Scotiabank legacy cheque presentation and jersey unveil (main stage)

1:30 p.m. Live music - Freedom 95 (main stage)

2 p.m. Pre-tape for Sportsnet Central and Hockey Night in Canada (on-site)

2:15 p.m. The Hockey Circus Show (on-site)

3:30 p.m. Live music - Dustin Bentall (main stage); autograph signing with Kirk McLean (Scotiabank tent)
