Just like last year's event, shown in photo, entertainment, food, information and inspiration will all be served up at this year's Recovery Day Festival.

Matthew Good will be headlining this year’s Recovery Day Festival in uptown New West.

The Recovery Day B.C. Festival, being held around Sixth and Sixth on Saturday, Sept. 8 from noon to 5 p.m., includes a kid’s zone, speakers, vendors, live entertainment and more. Good will perform a free show at 4 p.m.

“We are expecting 20,000 people in recovery here,” said Susan Hogarth, treasurer of the Recovery Day Vancouver Society. “His name came up last year and I am such a huge fan – I wouldn’t let it go. He is a friend of recovery. That is what Recovery Day is about. It’s not only about a recovering person, but it’s about the families and it’s about the friends of recovery, and how can we show people that it’s OK to speak out loud and say that you are in recovery. How can we make people unafraid? One of the things is for people to be unafraid to come out in recovery and people to stop being afraid of people who are in recovery.”

In addition to the street festival, the 2018 Recovery Capital Conference is taking place at Anvil Centre in New West on Sept. 6 and 7.

“We are breaking down the stigma,” said Hogarth, who is executive director of Westminster House recovery program in New West. “It’s going to be really, really good.”
