Century House serves up fun for seniors in New West

Looking for something to do in the coming weeks? Look no further than Century House.

Aside from its regular lineup of programs and services, Century House is also set to serve up some special events and classes. Here’s a sampling of some of the offerings coming up in the next few weeks.

* Make a pasta pizza planter featuring dwarf tomatoes, oregano, arugula and a dwarf peppers, which you can use for pasta sauce or pizza toppings in the late summer or early fall. The class is on Thursday, June 7 from 1:30 to 3 p.m.  Registration is $36.75 (code 3150)

* Find out how to set up social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram so you can contact friends and family, share videos and photos. You’ll learn how to set up and use Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts and find out about social media etiquette. It’s running Saturdays from May 26 to June 16 from 10:30 a.m. to noon and costs $37 (code 3167).

* Learn how to use Skype, Facebook and other similar services to keep in touch face-to-face with friends and family in the Video-Chatting program being offered on Saturdays from May 26 to June 16 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. It costs $37 (registration code 3164)

* Plant a summer herb planter and learn some ideas for using herbs in your cooking on Thursday June 14 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Registration for this class (code 3155) is $36.75.

* Party like its 1958 at the Fabulous Fifties Dinner at Century House on Wednesday, June 20, when you’ll enjoy dinner and music by Freedom 95. Happy hour starts at 5 p.m. and dinner is at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 for members and $30 for non-members (Code 7276)

* Take part in an open dialogue and listen to a presentation by the New Westminster Police Department about safety issues such as scams (email, mail, internet and phone), fraud, and warm-weather home safety. Refreshments will be served at this free presentation, which is on Thursday, June 7 from 1 to 3 p.m.  

* Join a circuit training group at Century House’s exercise room, where you’ll get instruction and supervision on workouts using cardio, weight equipment, free weights, stability balls and more. The next session runs on Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. from June 14 to July 5. Registration is $41 (code 0318)
