The media landscape is changing in New Westminster.

On Dec. 17 Black Press sold the NewsLeader to Glacier Media - owner of the Record. The deal is now closed and, as of April 6, the Record will be published once a week on Wednesdays, and the NewsLeader will publish once a week on Thursdays.

Lara Graham, the Record's associate publisher, said, "We're committed at the Record to continuing to provide award-winning editorial coverage and the best marketing and promotion partnerships in New Westminster."

Graham said community engagement continues to be top of mind for the Record.

"Our strength as a community newspaper resides in the relationships we have built for over three decades in this city - and that we continue to build on."

Graham said Wednesday is a prime day for delivering information and offers an extended shelf life for readership and advertisers. "It gives our clients and readers a jump on the week to plan their promotions and activities."

"We're positioned to grow and expand both our readership through special promotions and to continue to deliver more positive and powerful results for our advertisers and partners in the community," she added.

Editor Pat Tracy said, "We've been first with the news in the city both in print and on our website for quite awhile, we'll continue to be the place to go for credible information and lively opinions."

"Community newspapers are the only media which not only depend on the community, but also understand the importance of community - story by story, photo by photo. Our newsroom is dedicated to providing local news in all its forms - politics, planning, arts, sports - it's a unique, important role we play in New Westminster. I believe our readers appreciate this relationship, and we're pleased and proud to continue to earn the support of our readers every single day of the week, whether it's in print or on our website."
