Donald Trump may have topped the polls in the U.S. election, but he didn’t fare as well in a poll set up at Greens and Beans Deli.

While Americans hit the polls south of the border, Leona Green set up a polling station at the Sapperton deli on Tuesday.

“People could vote for whoever they wanted. We had about 50 or 60 people vote,” she told the Record the morning after the election. “It didn’t reflect the Trump win. There were 27 votes for Hillary and 13 votes for Trump. I also let people vote for who they wanted, if they didn’t want either of them. I got two votes. Beyonce got two. A bunch got votes – Barney the dinosaur, the Power Rangers, Mr. Dressup, Santa Claus, Grumpy Cat. My customers have a good sense of humour.”

For the past month Greens and Beans has been selling a Trump sandwich, which featured white bread, lots of baloney, Russian mustard and a small pickle. (The fundraiser raised $130 for the Immigrant Services Society of B.C.)

“Nobody complained and nobody said, ‘Oh, I like Trump, you shouldn’t do that.’ Today, a lot of people are saying, ‘Trump’s a good pick.’ I’m like, where were you all month? Suddenly he has all these supporters,” Green said Wednesday. “This morning, my very first person who drove up to deliver to me was Trumps – it’s a bakery in Vancouver.”

A few years back, Green was gifted a framed Trump tie and autographed photo. She hasn’t decided if she’ll hang on to it or sell it on EBay.

“I remember a couple of months ago just looking at how much autographed stuff went for. He signs a lot of stuff, all his books that he sells,” she said. “Usually that makes it not that valuable. Now, it’s 10 times what it was a few months ago.”
